Think about this for one second. Why do we drink milk at all? It is intended for a baby calf. Do we drink milk because there is real scientific proof that it is good for us, or is it merely the National Dairy Council, a propaganda machine dedicated to selling its product? Let's take a look. Human milk has 5% calories as protein, and human babies double their birth weight in 180 days. The percentage of protein in cow's milk is three times as high, 15%. Calves double their birth weight in only 47 days. Cow's milk has enough fat to turn a 45 pound calf into a 400 pound cow. Milk, or as John McDougall, MD, calls it, "liquid meat," is very high in protein, fat, and cholesterol, yet contains no fiber and is low in carbohydrates. Here is a brief list of the disorders caused by the consumption of cow's milk and dairy by human beings:
Crohn's disease, canker sores, vomiting, colic, stomach cramps, abdominal distention, intestinal obstruction, bloody stools, colitis, mal-absorption, loss of appetite, growth retardation, diarrhea, constipation, painful defecation, irritation of tongue, lips, and mouth. -Respiratory- nasal stuffiness, runny nose, otidis media (inner ear trouble), sinusitis, asthma, pulmonary infiltrates. "Skin- rashes, atopic dermatitis, eczema, seborrhea, hives. Irritability, restlessness, hyperactivity, headache, lethargy, fatigue, allergic-tension fatigue syndrome, muscle pain, mental depression, enuresis (bed wetting) Heart disease, high blood pressure, strokes, abnormal blood clotting, IRON DEFICIENCY ANEMIA, anaphylatic shock and death, sudden infant death syndrome (crib or cot death).
What About Calcium? This will be shocking to you, because it goes against years of conditioning by advertising and Doctors who knew nothing about nutrition. Due to the high protein content of milk, there is a net loss of calcium in the body when consumed. Even studies paid for by the National Dairy Council have shown that the excessive protein in milk lowers blood calcium levels, causing the body to draw on calcium from the bones. All of the propaganda about drinking milk to prevent osteoporosis is completely inaccurate. Milk actually helps cause the condition.
What about Vitamin D? The Dairy Industry has added supplemental Vitamin D to milk, supposedly to protect people from developing rickets. Rickets is a disorder characterized by painful and deformed bones. This disease is common in places where there is limited exposure to sunlight. To begin with, vitamin D is actually NOT a Vitamin because the body can and does synthesize all that it needs. Vitamin D is really a hormone synthesized by the action of SUNLIGHT on plant sterols found in our skin. Our body levels of Vitamin D are only slightly affected by dietary sources such as milk fortified with Vitamin D and Vitamin pills. Because Vitamin D is fat-soluble, this hormone can be stored in our body fat for long periods of time. Therefore, INTERMITTENT EXPOSURE TO SUNLIGHT IS ADEQUATE...our minimum requirement for sunlight is small and easily met by most people in their daily activities.
Bovine Growth Hormone has caused an international uproar from the United Nations, to physicians and even the justice system. Currently the FDA does not allow any company in America to label this hormone or if the milks is free of it. The FDA is in bed with a huge multi-national corporation called Monsanto, who is leading the charge in genetically modified foods while hiding it from the public.
Corporate-owned factories where cows are warehoused in huge sheds and treated
like milk machines have replaced most small family farms. With genetic
manipulation and intensive production technologies, it is common for modern dairy
cows to produce 100 pounds of milk a day? 10 times more than they would
produce in nature. To keep milk production as high as possible, farmers artificially
inseminate cows every year. Growth hormones and unnatural milking schedules
cause dairy cows' udders to become painful and so heavy that they sometimes drag
on the ground, resulting in frequent infections and overuse of antibiotics. Cows -- like all mammals -- make milk
to feed their own babies -- not humans.
Male calves, the "byproducts" of the dairy industry, endure 14 to17 weeks of torment in
veal crates so small that they can't even turn around. Female calves often replace their
old, worn-out mothers, or are slaughtered soon after birth for
the rennet in their stomachs (an ingredient of most
commercial cheeses). They are often kept in tiny crates or
tethered in stalls for the first few months of their lives, only to
grow up to become "milk machines" like their mothers.
Dairy products are a health hazard. They contain no fiber or complex carbohydrates
and are laden with saturated fat and cholesterol. They are contaminated with cow's
blood and pus and are frequently contaminated with pesticides, hormones, and
antibiotics. Dairy products are linked to allergies, constipation, obesity, heart disease,
cancer, and other diseases.
MILK: IT DOESN'T DO A BODY GOOD Countries consuming the most dairy products also have by far the most osteoporosis and heart disease. Eighty percent of the world's cases of osteoporosis are in western countries, and these are the same countries that consume the most dairy.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the average American
consumes more than 550 pounds of dairy products annually, which is 40
percent of the bulk of the food Americans eat. It's not only milk that poses a threat to our health. It is legal for fertilizer companies to add products from incinerated medical and municipal
wastes, which include: lead, arsenic, dioxins and radioactive materials; they are not
required to list these ingredients.
More than 2 billion pounds of toxic chemicals are used in the U.S. each year for agriculture
and forestry. Non-organic farming consumes more crude oil in the manufacture and
application of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides than any other industry in the
Dead animal carcasses are collected from veterinarians and animal shelters, sold to
feedlots, ground-up, and used as feed for some of the meat that we eat. This is unbelievable to most people, but the story
was carried by the Associated Press (AP) in August 1997. Our meat comes mainly from
animals that are vegetarian, feeding them other animals is how Mad Cow Disease got it's
start. The meat from these animals can cause a vast array of health problems. Just like genetic engineering, this tampering with the natural order of things will come back and haunt us.
