Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy have been selected by President-elect Donald Trump to head the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), where they will "slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies," according to an official release from the Trump-Vance transition team, which called this "potentially, the "Manhattan Project" of our time."
According to the statement, "Their work will conclude no later than July 4, 2026" - the nation's 250th anniversary.
Musk previously predicted he could cut at least $2 trillion from the US federal budget, while Ramaswamy suggested firing federal workers based on their social security numbers.
"Here's how: if your [Social Security number] ends in an odd number, you're fired," he wrote on X.
"This will send shockwaves through the system, and anyone involved in Government waste, which is a lot of people," Musk said on Tuesday in a statement provided by the Trump transition team.
"I am pleased to announced that the Great Elon Musk, working in conjunction with American Patriot Vivek Ramaswamy, will lead the Department of Government Efficiency ("DOGE"). Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies - Essential to the "Save America" Movement," Trump said in a statement.
"This will send shockwaves through the system, and anyone involved in Government waste, which is a lot of people!" Elon Musk said.
"It will become, potentially, "The Manhattan Project" of our time. Republican politicians have dreamed about the objectives of "DOGE" for a very long time. To drive this kind of drastic change, The Department of Government Efficiency will provide advice and guidance from outside of Government, and will partner with the White House and Office of Management & Budget to drive large scale structural reform, and create an entrepreneurial approach to Government never seen before," Trump said.

Start by firing the 87,000 new IRS agents. Cut at least 90% of ALL three letter agencies. The bureaucracy causes more problems than they solve. They do it every single day. And then they stick it to the taxpayer and future generations. We have what? 80,000 employees in the State Department. Does anyone know why? What do we have to show for it?
