TRUMP PLANS TO SEND AMERICANS A CHECK

By Luis Miguel - thenewamerican.com

The DOW Jones Industrial Average jumped 1,000 points Tuesday after the Trump administration announced a plan to send cash directly to most Americans as a way of alleviating costs incurred by responses to the coronavirus outbreak.

"We're looking at sending checks to Americans immediately," said Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin during a White House press briefing. "Americans need cash now, the president wants to get cash now. I mean now - in the next few weeks."

President Trump himself was present at the meeting, as were Vice President Mike Pence and the coronavirus task force. The news resulted in a 1,000-point spike of the Dow, which sustained historic losses on Monday.

"The president has instructed we have to do this now," Mnuchin added. His announcement was lacking in specifics, but he emphasized that millionaires will not be receiving the aid.

The White House is currently in negotiations with Congress to pass a major economic stimulus package to help businesses and employees affected with by the responses of state and local governments, which have included prohibiting large gatherings of people, forcing the closure of all businesses deemed "non-essential," and even restricting the sale of firearms and ammunition.

Mnuchin also made clear that the Treasury Department would not extend the tax deadline beyond April 15, as much of the filing can be done via internet.

"We encourage Americans who can file taxes to continue to file taxes on April 15 because for many Americans, you will get tax refunds and we don't want you to lose out on those tax refunds," the Treasury Secretary said. However, he did say that the government will allow taxpayers a 90-day interest-free deferment if they owe money to the IRS after filing.

"If you owe a payment to the IRS, you can defer up to $1 million as an individual, and $10 million to corporations, interest-free and penalty-free for 90 days," he said. "File your taxes, you'll automatically not get charged interests or penalties."

Mnuchin and Senate Republicans are outlining an $850 billion package during lunch on Tuesday. Administration officials hope the plan will be approved by week's end. Upon opening the Senate Tuesday morning, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) vowed to act swiftly.

"The Senate will not adjourn until we have passed significant and bold new steps above and beyond what the House has passed to help our strong nation and our strong underlying economy weather this storm."

The president's proposed coronavirus stimulus package is colossal - bigger than even the 2008 bank bailout and Obama's $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. President Trump said there was "great sprit" among lawmakers with regard to the package. "I can say that for Republicans and Democrats."

Pence, who leads the coronavirus task force, said that testing is available in all 50 states and stated that "state health authorities can now authorize labs in their state and expand existing testing capabilities."

"It is important that the American people understand that testing is happening all around the country," he added, noting that "experts say that if every American acts on the coronavirus guidelines, we can see a substantial reduction in the spread, but as the president said, it will take all of us to do it."

"For the American people, as a whole, the risk of serious illness remains low," Pence said. President Trump's proposed cash giveaway not only mirrors Obama's infamous stimulus; it's right in line with what prominent leftists and globalists have been calling for. Senator Mitt Romney (R-Utah) on Monday called on Congress to pass legislation to "immediately" mail a $1,000 check to every American.

The idea was heralded by leftists, many of whom saw the Republican's demand that government give money to the masses as a validation of the Universal Basic Income doctrine heralded by progressives such as Representative Alexandria-Ocasio Cortez (D-N.Y.) and former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang.

As retired congressman Ron Paul observes, panics of this magnitude provide perfect justification for the expansion of government and the reduction of individual rights.

"The mayor of Champaign, Illinois, signed an executive order declaring the power to ban the sale of guns and alcohol and cut off gas, water, or electricity to any citizen. The governor of Ohio just essentially closed his entire state," Paul wrote.

Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Connecticut have shut down "non-essential" businesses. The problem is that all businesses are essential to the workers whose livelihoods depend on them.

But the health panic makes way for the working class to instead become conditioned to being dependent on the government for a check. The health panic gives tyrannical governments justification to ban "large groups" of organized dissidents. And it gives further pretext to authoritarians who want to force vaccines on the public, doing away with vaccine exemptions.

Should Americans take precautions so safeguard themselves, their loved ones, and their coworkers from the virus? Of course. Are there some people who are at risk of being affected seriously? Yes.

But when the vast majority of the public would not experience anything more serious than a fever and flu-like symptoms from a coronavirus infection, why has the world come to a grinding halt?

It's all in the perception created by the media. And we already know that for much of the mainstream media, the goal is statism. The coronavirus scare plays right into their hands.
