President Donald Trump mocked Democrats on Wednesday for holding hearings with former special counsel Robert Mueller on the Russia investigation.
Trump was out in the immediate aftermath of the hearings crucifying Democrats and Mueller for the poor performance.
Trump told reporters:
"I think Robert Mueller did a horrible job both today and with respect to the investigation. But in fairness to Robert Mueller, he had nothing to work with. You can be a builder, but if they don't give you the right materials you're not going to build a good building. Robert Mueller had no material-he had nothing to work with-so obviously he did very poorly today. I don't think there's anybody, even among the fakers, I don't think there's anybody that would say he did well. I looked at your people [the networks], they're saying it was devastating."
Trump added that it was also a "devastating day" for the Democrats:
They are devastated. The Democrats lost so big today, their party is in shambles right now. They've got the squad leading their party. They are a mess. Where even you take a look at ... and so many of the people that were the most outspoken, and they say this was a devastating day for the Democrats, and you know it, John, and everybody else knows it. This was a devastating day for the Democrats."
The president also shared Fox News analysis of the hearings, including Chris Wallace describing the testimony as a "disaster," Katie Pavlich noting that Mueller denied that his investigation was impeded, and highlights of Rep. Jim Jordan's line of questioning.
White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham also shared an assessment of the Mueller testimony earlier on Wednesday.
"The last three hours have been an epic embarrassment for the Democrats," she wrote in a statement to reporters. "Expect more of the same in the second half."
After the second round of questioning Mueller, Trump appeared triumphant by the results of the House committee hearing after retweeting several highlights from the hearing from his House Republican allies.
"TRUTH IS A FORCE OF NATURE!" he wrote on Twitter.
Trump's re-election campaign manager Brad Parscale also issued a statement calling the hearings a "disaster" for Democrats.
"This entire spectacle has always been about the Democrats trying to undo the legitimate result of the 2016 election and today they again failed miserably," he wrote.
"I would like to thank the Democrats for holding this morning's hearing. Now, after 3 hours, Robert Mueller has to subject himself to #ShiftySchiff – an Embarrassment to our Country!
"Mueller was asked whether or not the investigation was impeded in any way, and he said no." In other words, there was NO OBSTRUCTION. @KatiePavlich @FoxNews
"This has been a disaster for the Democrats and a disaster for the reputation of Robert Mueller." Chris Wallace @FoxNews
